Best Time to Do Mardi Himal Trek

The best time to do the Mardi Himal Trek is during the Autumn and Spring seasons. Both these times of the year offer the best views of the surrounding mountains of the Annapurna region with optimal weather conditions.

Of course, monsoon has its own beauty, making the trails greener than before. However, the challenge of muddy trail and frequent landslides with obstructed views can be a problem.

Winter might be cold, but the snowfall in Mardi is one of the highlights of the place. That’s the reason Mardi Himal Trek is becoming quite popular in the months of December to February. No matter what season you choose, you’re going to get the best exprience in this part of the Annapurna region!

Difficulty Level of Mardi Himal Trek

Mardi Himal Trek is considered a moderate to easy trek. It’s ideal for beginners and even solo trekkers planning to do it independently.

However, challenges like the high-altitude region with the possibility of altitude sickness, steep uphills, and the remote location can be overwhelming. The only option in case of any major health-related issue would be a helicopter rescue. So, I highly suggest getting travel insurance!

Other than that, the trail is easy, and if you come prepared with the right mindset, this Mardi Himal Trek shouldn’t be that difficult for you.

Permits Required For Mardi Himal Trek

Since Mardi Himal lies within the Annapurna Conservation Area, just like the Annapurna Base Camp Trek, you’ll need two permits:

  • Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP
  • Trekkers’ Information Management System (TIMS) card (less used these days)

Besides, if you’re planning to bring professional video cameras, you’ll need special permits for that too.

This is when choosing the right travel agency comes in handy! They handle all the permits for you within their package.

Packing List For Mardi Himal Trek

The packing list for the Mardi Himal Trek can be a bit tricky. However, from my own experience, I believe that the following gear list should give you an idea on what to pack:

  • Footwear: Hiking boots (sturdy), camp shoes/sandals, gaiters, trekking socks (wool/synthetic)
  • Backpack & Bags: 40-50 L trekking backpack, 10-20L daypack, rain cover for backpack, and raincoat
  • Trekking Gear: trekking poles, headlamp with extra batteries, water bottle, water purification tablets, sunglasses (UV protection), sunscreen, lip balm with SPF, personal first-aid kit, quick-dry towel
  • Toiletries & Personal Items: toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, wet wipes, hand sanitizer, tissues, moisturizer, and other sanitary products
  • Electronics: power bank, charging cables, and power adapter (two-pin Nepal type C)

Mardi Himal Trek Cost

Mardi Himal Trek costs vary based on the packages offered by travel agencies. You’re supposed to hire a professional guide, and in case the load is too big, you can even get a human porter.

Expect to spend anywhere from $350 to $1000. The cost varies depending on the itinerary, luxury stays, and other factors.

One suggestion, though. Kindly do not trek alone. Take a local guide with you so he/she can help you out in case of emergencies.

Final Words

You see, Mardi Himal Trek is one of the easiest treks to do in the Annapurna region. This journey combines gentle ascents, forest trails, and gradual elevation gains, making it an ideal trekking spot.

The striking balance of challenge and comfort is what makes Mardi Himal Trek one of the best treks to do in Nepal. It’s a trending activity nationwide, so watch out for potential crowds throughout the year.

Overall, if you’re thinking about doing the trek, don’t second-guess your choice. You’ve planned it, so go for it!
